Fall Comes to the UP

I'd forgotten, even though it totally threw me last year. Fall comes fast and early. In Massachusetts (and Virginia, too, I think) August is the hottest month. But here, the autumn arrives swiftly. I'd say that fully half of the trees are turning. And the air is cool. Some leaves have even fallen from the trees. I love the fall, and the cooler air, and the beauty that takes my breath away. But it's always a shock to have the green begin to vanish. And knowing what I know now about how long it will be until they return, I'm feeling a bit melancholy about their early departure.

Hey Fran,
I came up as "The Handmaids Tale" by Margaret Atwood, one of my all time favorites. Scary social structures not being that uncommon after all.

Good quiz. Thanks.

Enjoy the Fall in the UP, only the stressed trees are changing here.

Hey Fran,

We were up in Conway for massage time with the lovely Dehlia. Next time you are out East, let us know, we'll hook you up, and we'll pay for it.
Dehlia is SOMETHING SPECIAL. For you local folks, Dehlia Rosel. Very good hands, very good energy, very good healing.

Up there in Conway the hostas were still blooming and we are two weeks past that here in the valley.

Sunsets are earlier, we're heading into the Fall season, but it is time to enjoy the lingering sunlight and to start gathering the winter reading books. Hot tub time, stars every night. Now that the local idiot has been jailed for shooting Great Blues, we have lots more of them...that's always a delight. Both the jailing and more Great Blues...looking forward to seeing UP birds..for sure.

A challenge here, to all of Fran's friends. How many GOOD books have you encountered or will you try to read this winter? Let's share the titles..I'm always in love with a good book review or a book challenging of something I would not have read otherwise.

Bring it on, what are you reading?

As ever,
Love to Fran , thanks for the medium,
Love, Laur

OK, I posted and now I have to submit..I loved "The Time Traveler's Wife". Probably the best novel I've read in a while. I also thought that Armistead Maupin's "Night Listener" was just a little twisted and a little over the top..so, what really happened to Pap?

Summer is getting over, more serious stuff to read..what did you all like?

As ever, L

It was sad to see the leaves changing so early as I was hauling stuff to my parents house last weekend. It's my favorite season though, for the cooler weather, bundling up and walking through crunchy leaves. Guess I moved to the wrong place for that. It's 100 degrees today. Enjoy the leaves for me!

Hi Fran... I feel like I can still feel the air in the UP from when I was there in August two years ago. I hope someday I'll be back up there with you for a visit!
